Description
Listeners of the podcast know that predicting trends and seeing if they pan out is a regular feature. This episode is no different.
A KornFerry article on Talent Acquisition Trends for 2024 points out that early career hiring is a big trend to watch this year. Here’s the scoop:
KornFerry predicts that bigger companies will start wooing candidates while they’re still in high school, and others will look for hires in technical and non-traditional higher education settings.
There are a few reasons for this.
Money, as always, is a factor. Entry-level hires typically come with lower salary demands compared to more experienced candidates, which is great when budgets are tight.
Another reason is the pursuit of fresh ideas and fostering an inclusive work environment. A wider talent pool makes it easier for companies to meet their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) goals.
Younger hires have their own expectations, too. They want more inclusion, compassion, and balance from their employers.
KornFerry also points out that there’s a growing call for empathy, emotional intelligence, and a focus on mental health at work. They believe it’s up to employers to step up and support their people in these areas. Despite everything, KornFerry thinks companies will really focus on early career hiring this year.
With 2024 already halfway through, it should be clear if this trend is taking off. So here’s the statement:
“2024 is the year in which early career hiring overtakes campus recruitment.”
