2025 will be the year in which companies will fully embrace the ageing workforce

Description

The HR Trends season has officially begun, marking a new chapter in the exploration of workforce dynamics. The Academy to Innovate HR’s report for the upcoming year highlights 11 trends, including the emergence of the “golden age of the silver worker.”

The report cites a 2024 Mercer article, noting that individuals aged 75 and older represent the fastest-growing segment of the workforce. This trend is driven by factors such as financial necessity and personal choice to continue working. Despite this, many current HR policies and workplace environments are not adequately geared toward this demographic, as historically, many people retired at this age.

Many organizations lack ergonomic office designs, flexible work arrangements, and benefits specifically for older workers. Additionally, employer branding often prioritizes younger talent, overlooking the contributions of older employees. However, the presence of retiree-age workers is set to increase.

Organizations that acknowledge this demographic shift have a strategic opportunity. By addressing the needs of silver workers, companies can unlock new productivity levels, promote knowledge transfer, and enhance team dynamics. Embracing the ageing workforce can position companies as leaders in 2025 and beyond, providing a competitive advantage. Integrating mature workers into the business framework can capitalize on their skills, enhance generational diversity, and demonstrate respect for ageing customers’ lifestyles and dignity.

This context sets the stage for the second statement of today’s discussion:

“2025 will be the year in which companies will fully embrace the ageing workforce.”
