Superdry Streamlines Global Retail Operations with Cegid Retail Store Excellence

Leading fashion retailer Superdry has transformed its store operations and retail communication with the implementation of Cegid Retail Store Excellence, an AI-powered task management platform, that has helped the brand drive clarity, compliance and consistency across its global retail footprint.

With stores across the UK, Europe and the US, Superdry’s expanding presence had outgrown its previous legacy system, which had become difficult to customise, administer and scale. The retailer sought a modern, intuitive solution that could support real-time communication, streamline operational execution and empower store teams, while reducing admin and overhead.

Superdry is now an international omnichannel fashion brand, with around 250 owned and franchised stores worldwide. In the context of its transformation, the company undertook a deep overhaul of its physical store network: evolving the store concept, introducing new visual merchandising standards, launching a new service model, and revitalising the brand. In this context, having a single, reliable tool shared by field teams became a key lever for supporting change at scale.

“As workloads for our head office teams continued to increase, Cegid Retail Store Excellence has saved us valuable time. It gives us peace of mind, knowing that our retail teams have all the tools they need to work effectively, safely, and in line with the brand’s expectations and objectives.”

A key platform for improving task management

Cegid Retail Store Excellence played a decisive role in Superdry’s transformation. Thanks to this intelligent and scalable platform, head office teams can send targeted, tailored communications based on regions, stores, or teams. These updates are therefore clear, relevant, and easy to act on. Automated task management and real-time tracking have significantly reduced the time spent on administrative work, allowing store staff to focus on the customer experience.

Beyond simply sending instructions, the platform also enabled Superdry to structure the operational support for change across its stores. Redesigning the in-store experience, rolling out new brand standards, and introducing new execution expectations: the tool became a common anchor point for bringing teams on board and maintaining consistent execution.

In a dynamic retail environment, where store managers frequently change and operations are often decentralised, having a reliable and consistent source of information is essential. Cegid’s digital document management capabilities, such as training acknowledgements and visual merchandising guidelines, make compliance management easier.

Among the changes rolled out by Superdry over the past two years were:

  • a new brand identity and positioning, as part of its turnaround strategy;
  • an evolution in the in-store look and feel, with a brighter and more contemporary environment;
  • new visual merchandising standards;
  • a new service model designed to strengthen the in-store experience;
  • a stronger focus on operational efficiency in the field.

These changes reinforced the need for a centralised tool capable of quickly delivering the right information to the right teams at the right time.

A critical asset in times of crisis

Critically, the platform was implemented just before the onset of the pandemic, positioning Superdry with the tools needed to quickly adapt as stores reopened. Today, it remains an invaluable asset, helping the retailer navigate ongoing operational pressures with agility and control.

The role of the platform was not limited to crisis management. Once the crisis had passed, it continued to play a structuring role in Superdry’s ability to manage its store network over time, while maintaining agility, clarity of execution, and global alignment.

A strategic priority: improving efficiency and reducing costs

Superdry is in the middle of a strategic transformation phase, with a focus on improving efficiency, reducing costs, and strengthening operational discipline. In a context of rising labour costs, with higher national insurance contributions and a significant increase in minimum wage, streamlined and cost-effective retail execution is more of a priority than ever.

At Superdry, the drive for operational efficiency has delivered measurable results. On a like-for-like basis, the brand reduced store hours by around 9% over the past 12 months, representing close to £1 million in budget savings.

Cegid Retail Store Excellence supports this strategy by providing Superdry’s retail teams with the tools they need to maintain compliance, uphold brand standards, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.

For Superdry, return on investment is therefore not limited to a budgetary logic. It also lies in the platform’s ability to bring store teams into a deep transformation, while ensuring consistency, continuity, and adoption on the ground.

“The impact on our teams over the past two years has been huge. We’ve gone through a major transformation, with many changes in store. Having had a platform in place since 2019, one that teams can rely on, has brought us a great deal of stability and consistency during a period of intense change.”

A task management tool — and much more

With hindsight, Superdry no longer sees the solution as a simple top-down communication or task management tool. It has become a trusted operational foundation, used to secure execution, align teams, and support business priorities in a constantly changing retail environment.

“More than just a task management platform, it’s a trusted operational tool,” concludes Liz Packe. “It helps us do more with less — and do it better.”

The brand is already seeing the impact of AI in several areas, including merchandising, logistics, and customer service.
